Bangabandhu, Bangamata primary football tournament ends in Rajshahi

Bangabandhu Gold cup and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup Football Tournament-2022 ended here last night.

Rajshahi divisional office of the Department of Primary Education (DPE) hosted the tournament for both the boys and girls students aimed at flourishing their latent talents at Divisional Women Sports Complex in the city.

A total of eight boys teams from all eight districts under the division fight for the Bangabandhu Gold Cup, while another eight girls teams for Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup.

Final matches and closing ceremony of the tournament were held amid much enthusiasm and fanfare.

KR Nawkoir Government Primary School in Sirajganj district clinched the championship in Bangabandhu Gold Cup, while Moharajpur Government Primary School in Chapainawabganj and Jourgachha United Government Primary School in Pabna bagged the second and third positions respectively.

Hariakahon Government Primary School in Pabna clinched the championship in Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup, while Dhamainagar Government Primary School in Sirajganj and Uzgram Government Primary School in Bogura bagged the second and third positions respectively.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended and addressed the closing ceremony as chief guest, while Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Ziaul Haque spoke as special guest with Deputy Director of DPE Sheikh Raihan Uddin in the chair.

Deputy Director of Local Government Division Dr Chitralekha Naznin, Additional District Magistrate Sabiha Sultana, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joya Maria Perera and District Primary Education Officer Saidul Islam were present on the occasion.

In his remarks, Mayor Liton said more talented football players are expected to come out from the tournament and they will play in national teams.

He added that the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to elevate the country’s sports sector.
