Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Uttar Baridhara Club by 2-0 goals in the opening second phase match of TVS Bangladesh Premier League football held today (Sunday) at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj.

In the day’s match, Nigerian forward Chijoke Alaekwe and and compatriot striker Musa Najere scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. Both the goals came in the first half.

Sheikh Jamal had to wait couple of minutes to take the lead as Chijoke Alaekwe scored the first goal for Sheikh Jamal early in the 2nd minute while Musa Najere doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Sheikh Jamal in the 21st minute of the match.

Back with 2-0 lead in the first half, Sheikh Jamal however created several scoring chances, but failed to increase the margin further in the remaining proceeding.

With the day’s win, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who stand at second position in the league table, improved their tally with 24 points from 12 matches while Baridhara Club remained at their previous credit of eight points playing the same number of outings.

Sheikh Jamal will play their next match against Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj while Uttar Baridhara Club face Bashundhara Kings at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city. Both the matches will be held on April 29.

Earlier, in the first phase, Sheikh Jamal DC defeated Uttar Baridhara Club by 2-1 goals in a match held at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

Meanwhile, four matches will be held tomorrow (Monday) where Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra will play against Abahani Limited, Dhaka at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj at 3.30 pm, Bangladesh Police Football Club meets Saif Sporting Club at Muktijoddha Smrity Stadium in Rajshahi at 3.30 pm, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra meet Mohammedan Sporting Club in their home venue Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city at 3.30 pm and old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society play against Chittagong Abahani Limited at Sylhet District Stadium, Sylhet at 3.45 pm.
