Rajshahi Div clinch Sheikh Russel Development Cup Football title

Rajshahi division clinched title of the Sheikh Russel Development Cup Football tournament boys (U-15) beating Sylhet division by 3-2 goals in penalty shootout in the final held Friday at Government Physical Education College ground in the city’s Mohammadpur.

The match rolled into a tie breaker after the regulation time ended in a goalless draw.

Mejbah Ahmed, the captain of Rajshahi division, was named the best player of the tournament while Zahidul Islam of the same team was emerged as the highest scorer of the meet.

Besides, Gobindo Chandra Saha of the champion team was given the best goal keeper award.

Youth and Sports Secretary Mesbah Uddin was the chief guest in the final and distributed the prizes in the prize distribution ceremony, presided by Directorate of Sports president KM Ali Reza.

Youth and Sports Ministry’s additional Secretary Mosharaf Hossain Mollah and Youth and Sports Ministry’s joint secretary Rekha Rani Balo were also present on the occasion.

The eight edition of the tournament, participated by eight divisional teams in the national phase tournament, was held by the entire co-operation of Directorate of Sports.

The Directorate of Sports have plan to arrange month-long residential training with the selected players from each participating division.
