Chittagong Abahani and Saif Sporting Club are facing each other in the first semi-final match of Walton Federation Cup football on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Saif boys won over Mohammedan Sporting Club in a hard-fought match by 2(7)-2(6) margin to confirm the last four round on Saturday while the Chittagong boys came to play the semi-final winning the first quarterfinal against Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 2-0 goals on Friday.
Neither Saif nor Chittagong Abahani got much of a good records in the event. Only the Chattogram based team was able to play the final once and became runner-up in 2017. For the Saif Sporting Club, it will be playing the semi-finals of Fed Cup for the first time this season.
Saif boys were eliminated from the group stage in 2017 while were able to manage it to the quarters in the 2018 and 2019-20 season only to be eliminated from there. The two had not gotten a chance to face each other in this event before now.
The last time the two meet in the abandoned 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in February and the match ended with a 2-2 tie. Event their last meet in the 2018-19 BPL too saw a 1-1 tie in September, 2019. Let’s see what happen today!
